Privacy Policy
Last updated July 14, 2026
BFTW (“BFTW,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is made by Apps for Humans LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using BFTW, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
If you have questions about this policy, email us at privacy@bftw.app.
The short version
- BFTW is local-first: your budget and transaction data lives on your device and syncs across your own devices. We never use your financial data, including in aggregated or de-identified form, for anything other than providing BFTW to you. We don’t analyze it for advertising, use it to train AI/ML models, or sell or share it with anyone.
- We connect to your bank through Plaid so you don’t have to enter transactions by hand. We never see or store your bank login credentials: Plaid handles that.
- We use RevenueCat and the App Store to manage your subscription, and Convex to sync your data between your devices and keep it backed up.
- We don’t run ads and we don’t sell your personal information to anyone.
Information we collect
Account information
To create an account, we ask for your email address. We use passwordless sign-in (a one-time code sent to your email), so we don’t store a password. Sign-in code and account emails are delivered through Resend, our email delivery provider.
Financial data
If you choose to connect a bank account, we use Plaid to securely retrieve your account and transaction data (account names, balances, and transaction history) so BFTW can categorize spending and calculate your safe-to-spend number. Your bank credentials are entered directly into Plaid’s interface and are never transmitted to or stored by us.
You can also enter transactions manually without connecting a bank account.
If you disconnect a bank account, we stop retrieving new data from it. You can also ask us to delete the data we previously retrieved by emailing privacy@bftw.app.
Budget and transaction data
The categories, budgets, goals, transactions, and settings you create in BFTW are stored locally on your device and synced across your devices using our backend (built on Convex) so your data stays available and backed up. We do not access or analyze the content of your budget or transaction data except as needed to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot the service, or as required by law.
Subscription and payment information
Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store and processed with RevenueCat. We receive confirmation of your subscription status (e.g., active, trial, expired) but we never see or store your full payment card details; those are handled by Apple.
Usage and device information
We collect limited technical information to keep the app running, diagnose problems, and understand how people use BFTW, such as device type, operating system version, app version, IP address, feature usage, and crash or error logs. We use Amplitude to help us analyze this usage data. This information does not include the content of your financial or budget data, and it is not used for advertising.
Support communications
If you contact us for help, we collect your email address and the contents of your messages so we can respond and resolve your issue.
How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain BFTW, including bank sync, categorization, and safe-to-spend calculations;
- Sync your data securely across your devices;
- Process and manage your subscription;
- Communicate with you about your account, such as sign-in codes, receipts, or important service updates;
- Diagnose bugs and improve reliability; and
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not use your financial data, including aggregated or de-identified financial data, for advertising, for analytics unrelated to your own account, to train AI or machine learning models, or for any purpose beyond providing BFTW to you. We do not sell your personal information.
Automated processing
BFTW automatically categorizes transactions and calculates your safe-to-spend number based on the data you provide. These are automated features that help you use the app day-to-day; they don’t produce legal or similarly significant effects, and you can always review, correct, or override the results yourself.
Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers who help us operate BFTW, and only to the extent necessary for them to provide their service to us:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Plaid | Connecting to and retrieving data from your bank accounts |
| Convex | Backend sync, authentication, and data storage |
| Resend | Delivering sign-in codes and account emails |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management |
| Amplitude | Product usage analytics (device and usage information only, never your financial or budget data) |
| Google Analytics | Marketing website usage analytics (cookieless; see “Our website” below; not used in the app) |
| Apple (App Store) | Billing and app distribution |
We run no advertising partnerships, so none of your information is shared for advertising purposes. We may also disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others. If BFTW is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, and we’ll notify you before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy. We will never sell your personal information to third parties.
How we protect your information
We encrypt your data in transit and at rest. Access to financial data within our systems is limited to what’s needed to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot BFTW, and isn’t used for any other purpose. We use passwordless sign-in (a one-time code sent to your email) instead of a stored password, which removes the risk of a reused or leaked password entirely.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Data retention and deletion
We retain your account and budget data for as long as your account is active. If your account is inactive for 24 consecutive months, we may delete your data after emailing you notice in advance. If you delete your account (from BFTW’s settings, or by emailing us), we delete your personal data from our systems within 30 days, except where we’re required to retain it for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes. We retain support conversations for up to 24 months to help resolve related issues, and may briefly retain your email address after account deletion solely to confirm the deletion was processed.
You can request a copy of your data or ask us to delete it at any time by emailing privacy@bftw.app. We’ll acknowledge your request within 3 business days and complete it within 30 days.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate information;
- Request deletion of your information;
- Request a portable copy of your data;
- Object to or restrict certain processing; and
- Appeal if we deny one of these requests.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@bftw.app. We’ll respond to appeals within a reasonable time and explain our decision. If you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California and other U.S. state privacy rights
Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have the rights above under those laws (for example, the CCPA/CPRA in California); we extend them to all U.S. users voluntarily, regardless of whether BFTW meets a given state’s applicability thresholds. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under state privacy laws, and we won’t discriminate against you (for example, by denying service or charging a different price) for exercising any of these rights.
Marketing and push notifications
Account and service emails (like sign-in codes and receipts) are necessary to operate BFTW and can’t be turned off. If we ever send marketing email, it will include an unsubscribe link. If BFTW sends push notifications, you can turn them off at any time in your device’s notification settings.
Our website
Our marketing website (where you’re likely reading this) uses Google Analytics to help us understand how visitors find and use the site, configured in cookieless mode: we’ve disabled all analytics and advertising storage, so it sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Google receives anonymous measurements including your IP address, approximate location, device and browser type, and the pages you visit, but without cookies your visits can’t be linked together or tied to you across sites — each visit looks like a new visitor to us. Google processes this data on our behalf; see Google’s privacy policy for how Google handles it. If you’d rather block these measurements entirely, the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or any content blocker will do so. The site’s fonts are served by Google Fonts, which also receives your IP address and browser information when the page loads.
The BFTW app itself does not use Google Analytics, and website analytics are never connected to your account or financial data.
International data transfers
BFTW is operated from the United States, and information we collect is stored and processed there. If you’re located outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your home country.
Children’s privacy
BFTW is not directed at, and is not intended for use by, anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at privacy@bftw.app and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll notify you by email or through the app before they take effect. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
